Doula Services Agreement & Outline

This agreement outlines the services, responsibilities, and expectations for both the doula and client. It ensures clarity, safety, and a supportive experience throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

1. Services Your Doula WILL Provide

  • Inclusive, compassionate support: Every parent, caregiver, and family—of all backgrounds, identities, and structures—is welcomed, respected, and supported without judgment.

  • Confidential, respectful care: Your information, conversations, and preferences are always kept private.

  • Culturally responsive care: Your beliefs, identity, and family traditions are honored throughout your journey.

  • Empowerment & education: You receive guidance and information to help you make informed choices.

  • Flexible, non‑judgmental support: You may adjust or decline services at any time.

  • Practical, hands‑on care: From comfort measures during labor to postpartum wellness and lactation support, your family is nurtured with compassion.

  • Collaborative, doula‑friendly care: We work alongside doctors, nurses, and care teams who welcome doulas as part of the birthing process. Our role is to support you—not replace medical care—so you feel confident, empowered, and cared for every step of the way.

  • Non‑medical doula support: Heart‑centered care for individuals and families during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

  • Emotional, physical, and informational support: Available at home or in the hospital, including immediate breastfeeding guidance after birth.

  • Prenatal meetings: Held in your home or a location of your choice to prepare for birth and postpartum.

  • Postpartum meetings: Focused on recovery, newborn care, feeding support, and emotional well‑being.

  • Birth plan assistance: Support in creating a plan that reflects your preferences and values.

  • On‑call availability: Beginning three weeks before your estimated due date for continuous readiness.

  • Phone and email support: Available through your fourth postpartum visit.

  • Backup doula support: A trusted backup doula may attend your birth if your primary doula is unavailable.

2. Services Your Doula Will NOT Provide

  • Medical services: Your doula will not perform tasks such as blood pressure monitoring, fetal heart checks, vaginal exams, or other clinical procedures.

  • Medical decisions or advice: Your doula will not make medical decisions or provide advice regarding medical care. Your doula helps you understand information from your provider and supports informed decision-making.

  • Communicating with medical staff on your behalf: You or your partner speak with medical staff; your doula supports you and offers guidance.

3. Client Responsibilities

  • Attend all scheduled appointments with your doula.

  • Provide a designated contact person for birth notifications if the client cannot reach the doula directly.

  • Call your doula when you believe labor is starting; your doula will join at home if possible and provide guidance on when to go to the hospital.

  • Understand that late or missed notifications may affect birth coverage.

4. Attendance & Scheduling

  • The doula will attend labor and birth according to agreed coverage hours.

  • Both client and doula will communicate promptly about timing, location, or any unexpected changes.

  • Excessive lateness or missed appointments may require rescheduling and could impact care continuity.

5. Agreement & Understanding

By signing this agreement, both client and doula confirm understanding of services, responsibilities, and expectations. This ensures a respectful, supportive, and collaborative partnership throughout the birth and postpartum journey.

Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy

At Breathe, Embrace & Nurture, we understand that pregnancy and postpartum plans can change. We aim to provide flexible, respectful care while protecting reserved time and on-call availability.

  • Appointments (Prenatal/Postpartum): Please give 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule.

  • Late Cancellations: Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice may result in a missed session being counted as used.

  • No-Shows: If you miss an appointment without notice, the visit may be counted as completed and may require a new booking to continue care.

  • On-Call Birth Support: Once on-call coverage begins (3 weeks before your due date), the retainer/on-call portion is non-refundable because time is reserved exclusively for you.

  • Emergencies: Medical changes, early labor, or unexpected situations will always be handled with compassion—please contact us as soon as possible so we can adjust your plan.
